Spring Heavy Trash Drop Off is HUGE SUCCESS

Cars were lined up for more than three blocks for most of the 6 hours of heavy trash drop off on April 26 at Speedway Street Department. For the first time in over 10 years, Speedway residents could bring Freon bearing appliances and tires for disposal. We ended up filling two trucks for Grooms Tires, a semi full of computer items and televisions went to Goldsmith Group, Asset Recycling took a truck full of building materials and Appliance Recyclers USA took a truck full of appliances. That left 12 roll-offs of material that was taken to the landfill. Thanks to Wendell and his crew at the street department for another wonderful job.

There was still quite a bit of stuff that should have been recycled and we'll work hard to find more vendors to assist with recycling our heavy trash. We could have easily filled at least 3 semi trailers with items that could have been re-used.

Thanks to our vendors, who were all amazing, Asset Recycling, Appliance Recyclers, USA, Grooms Tires and Goldsmith Group. They all send trucks and men and were all so much fun to work with. Resident volunteers included Bud Ellwanger, Breina Martin, and Nora Hinsman, who worked hard unloading and sorting. If you'd like to volunteer for fall, please email speedwayrecycles@yahoo.com or call Christie Manion at 317-809-8563.

Your Solid Waste Management Commission is working hard to reduce our waste costs. Any ideas or input from Speedway residents is greatly appreciated. The Solid Waste Management Commission meets the 2nd Wednesday of the month at Town Hall, 7 pm. (no meeting in May, December) Watch this spot for more information about fall trash drop off.
