PERF Offered to Wayne Township Board

No decisions were made by Wayne Township Board members as to whether or not they would accept a proposal to join the state's Public Employee Retirement Fund. The action would require an ordinance passed by the board members.

Township Trustee David Baird proposed the idea during the August 13 budget hearing meeting. The cost would be $6,500 per year for the seven members. "That is for the board to determine if they want to be in PERF," said Deputy Township Trustee Lynn McWhirter.

Although the board members are scheduled to meet monthly, some meetings are canceled, like the July meeting when no major business required board action.

The proposed 2010 budget allocates $59,434 for board's annual compensation.
