The Speedway Town Council is considering tightening the municipal code that controls where recreational vehicles and trailers can park on residential property.

Proposed ordinance 1153 would prohibit RVs and trailers from parking on corner residential lots if they are visible from the intersecting street. Unlike similar parking rules, the ordinance will have no exceptions during races. Ordinance 1153 was proposed by Councilor William Suffel.

The ordinance was passed on first reading at the August 10 council meeting.

Beverly Alexander asked if the ordinance applied to vehicles parked on the B & O corridor at 12th and Auburn Streets. The council said it would not apply if it is commercial property. The B & O corridor is zoned residential, as well as the corner lot.

Speedway Redevelopment Commission Executive Director Scott Harris said that Main Street development is moving at a faster pace. He said there are about ten interested parties and some are proceeding with developing time lines for construction budgets.

He also reported that comprehensive environmental assessments are being conducted for the 10th,16th, 25th, Lynhurst, Moller and Holt Road projects. The process should be completed next April or May, including a public hearing by March. The study is required for federal funding.

Last week, consultants from Weintraut and Associates were taking photos of homes along 25th Street. The consultants were hired by American Structurepoint to document homes over 50 years old for historical purposes.

Wastewater Treatment Plan Superintendent Norm Berry honored long time employee Tom Ragland, who died recently at the age of 59. He served the town for 29 years.

Clerk Treasurer Sharon Zishka said tax distributions should arrive on August 28th, including the tax increment financing funds for the SRC.

The council also approved closing 15th Street on August 24 from the alley to Main Street. The road closure is to raise money through a silent auction for the Motegi Kids going to Japan. The road will be closed from about 3 pm to 9 pm.
