The Gerrard-Allison Storm Water Relief project has struck out twice in attempts to receive grant money to fund the proposed $4 million storm-sewer separation project.

Department of Local Government Finance PIO Anne Bell announced on August 4 that the town did not receive the $1 million Disaster Recovery 2 grant money from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs. The town hired Banning Engineering to serve as the grant writer.

The first rejection came in March when the $500,000 community block grant was denied. The town's first pre-application was denied because of problems with the income survey. Dan Lake with Kieser Consultants worked on the first grant.

At the Storm Water Management May 21 meeting, Town Manager Barbara Lawrence repeated several times that the town is committed to moving forward with or without the grant. Now that the second grant has been denied, construction is expected to start by fall.
