Speedway Police officer Michael Hart was promoted to sergeant by the Police Commission at its monthly meeting on July 13. Hart, a 30 month veteran of the department, is also the K9 handler and is currently assigned to the street crimes unit.

Hart reached the rank of Lieutenant with the Marion County Sheriff's Office before joining Speedway.

Chief Jeff Dine announced he expects to be awarded a grant to purchase 14 additional E-ticket equipment packages to supplement the 18 currently installed in patrol vehicles.

The commission approved the department's plan to add a forth patrol district, which encompasses the area west of High School Road from Crawfordsville Road to 30th Street. This area had been a temporary beat since an increase in crime in the area started in 2008, although officials stated that crime has dropped in this area in recent months.

Officer Kyle Hodges and Detective Jim Thiele received a letter of commendation from the Prosecutor's office.

One detective received a two day suspension for a violation of the department's rules and regulations.
