Apartments Facing Water Cutoff
(posted 6.24.09 )
The Speedway Town Council voted 4-0 to shut off water to Coppertree Apartment
buildings that do not involve tenants' units. According to Clerk Treasurer
Sharon Zishka, Karim Properties, owner of the complex, has been behind
in payments since August of 2008 and owes the town over $200,000. The company
failed to pay the June 20th bill, triggering the town's 10 day notice to
shut water off by July 7. "We can't continue to let them slide"
Zishka said.
Town Manager Barbara Lawrence also indicated the owners are delinquent
in their apartment licensing fees.
The council took no action on the proposed creation of a merit system for
the fire department, a public safety department, and modifications to the
placement of signs advertising garage sales. It was the town manager's
recommendation that the council review the proposals and seek public comment
before officially introducing the ordinances for first and second readings.
