Area Two Acquisition List Approved

No one voiced opposition to being placed on the Area Two acquisition list at the March 16 public hearing. The Speedway Redevelopment Commission refused to remove four parcels from the list as requested by Steve Falender. Falender, who made his request by email, owns the land, but the buildings are owned by other parties. The properties are Hardee's, Union Jack and the vacant lot to the east, and the former BW-3s.

Grande Hearing Continued to May 13

The Holt Road extension has now become a critical component in the proposed vacation of Grande Avenue. The Plat Committee voted during its March 11 hearing to continue the hearing until May 13, despite objections from remonstrators.

Clermont to Discuss its Fate March 26

Residents can expect to receive flyers from the Clermont Town Council announcing its March 26 special meeting to explain the cost of operating the town. The meeting will be at Robey Elementary at 7 pm.

No Opposition Voiced Against SZ-1 and 2

Not all of the Speedway Redevelopment Commission's plans are being contested. No one spoke out against the proposed SZ-1 and SZ-2 zoning classifications, which received a favorable recommendation by the Metropolitan Development Hearing Examiner at the March 12 meeting. The recommendation will be forwarded to the Metropolitan Development Commission for its approval as well.

Resident Sue Jent is still not completely sure if she has the Speedway Town Council's support to remonstrate against Zore's variance petition to build two buildings at 1300 N. Mickley Street.

Kroger's Two Year Plan Becomes Reality

The Speedway Town Council approved Kroger's 30,000 square foot expansion plans at the Speedway Super Center. Town Manager Barbara Lawrence said the approval does not include the fuel center.

Holt Road Discussion Back On the Table

Greater Garden City Civic Association President Merri Anderson remains a "disbeliever" that closing Georgetown Road from 16th to 25th Street will work. Anderson contends that Wayne Township can't afford to close any roads, especially until Holt Road is completed. "It is going to hurt a lot of people and it is going to kill a few people, and I mean that figuratively and literally."
