Partnering with Marian College and Cardinal Ritter High School, Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development will host a series of public meetings starting March 12 to examine the 30th Street Corridor.

Dennis Slaughter, DMD senior planner, explained the plan will look at the corridor's connectivity, functionality and land use. Slaughter is encouraging the public from Eagledale and Lafayette Square Area to participate in the public meetings.

"The study area centers on West 30th Street between White River and Lafayette Road and the CSX Railroad. Part of Lafayette Road between West 30th Street to the railroad overpass is also included," said Slaughter.

Slaughter is interested in learning more about the plan to extend Holt Road to I-65 along Guion Road since it will intersect 30th Street.

The Speedway Redevelopment Commission is trying to revive the old plan by lobbying for federal funds to build the road to offset the traffic impact the commission's desire to close Georgetown Road would have.

Slaughter said "We are not setting on a big chunk of money to come out and rebuild 30th Street or anything else. Our approach really would be to have a good update plan that has a lot public input that will guide individual decisions down the road."

Slaughter discussed the lack of sidewalks to reach the recreational areas east of Coldspring Road as one of the area's weaknesses. One of the goals is to increase pedestrian connectivity.

The March 12 meeting is at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 3425 W. 30th Street, from 7-9 pm. Enter the church from the south side.

April 16th and May 14 meetings are scheduled to be at Cardinal Ritter High School from 7-9 pm. For more information go to the Indygov website.
