Georgetown 14 Cinemas marked its fourth anniversary on Feb 26 in the Lafayette
Square Area by showing a John Wayne classic, McLintock. Prior to the movie,
local business people and dignitaries gathered around to celebrate the
new growth occurring in the Lafayette Square area.
The anniversary also reflected the highlights of the area's achievements of trying to break a common perception of decay. State Representative Phil Hinkle and Deputy Mayor Olgin Williams were present for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Hinkle noted that Lafayette Square is a shining example of what can happen when everyone chips in to work together.
Williams made a promise to listen to the people, but asked them not to
request tax dollars for help because of fiscal constraints.
Cinema owner Mitch Bryson said the cinema is able to show a broader scope
of international films now with its new digital cinema system, installed
the day before. Bryson is striving for film diversity to meet the area's
multi-cultural market. Bryson also promoted an upcoming movie, Clancy.
If it proves to be successful, the cinema will start featuring a series
of Christian films.
Film distributors Bill Dever and Joe Gaudin of Monogramming Releases were
present.
Dever gave a verbal preview of Clancy, saying it's about faith, family
and priorities. "It is about surmounting individual struggles and
finding triumph in the little things."
Dever said Monogramming specializes on independent film-maker projects,
also known as B-films. Independent film-makers differentiate themselves
by working outside of the studio, "so it is entrepreneurial film-making
at its best." Dever said that Bryson recently became a partner in
this film distributing company.
Monogramming Release recruits film-makers, with many recruited from the
B Movie Celebration film festival in Franklin Indiana. The festival is September 25th-27th.
