MDC Passes SZ-1 and SZ-2 Again

The Metropolitan Development Commission approved the Speed Zone SZ1 and
SZ2 zoning classifications for the second time. The MDC conducted a public
hearing Feb 4, with no supporters or remonstrators speaking on the amendment
that will continue to allow firearm sales.
The MDC first approved the zoning ordinance in November, but it was rejected
by the Metropolitan Development Committee on December 15 due to the lack
of Speedway residents and officials to discuss the Speed Zone. The committee
heard the issue again on January 21 and amended the ordinance for firearm
sales. The ordinance was passed by the City-County Council January 26th
and then forwarded to the MDC.
The public hearing notice apparently was only posted on the MDC agenda.
On January 27, DMD PIO Officer John Bartholomew told the Navigator there
would not be a public hearing because it was more of a “housekeeping” issue
to approve the amended ordinance.
