SRC Expands Acquisition Lists(posted Oct 20)The Speedway Redevelopment Commission wants to enlarge its current acquisition lists by placing all properties in the Speed Zone and Area Two on the lists. The SRC hopes to have the goal accomplished by November. SRC Executive Director Scott Harris recommended that all parcels, including the IMS, Praxair and Allison Transmission, be added to the acquisition list at the commission's October 16 special session. << more >> Permit Income Drops for Moto GP(posted Oct 18)The Town of Speedway generated about $207,000 in vendor and stand permits for all three races this year. Fees generated from stand and peddler permits for the Moto GP were less than half of what Indy 500 brought in. Moto GP attendance was noticeably smaller than traditional races. Thursday's viewers had a chance to watch the movie with film's creator, Dan T. Hall, and cast members Marilene Isaacs and Shannon Simpson, Regional Director for Indiana Ghost Trackers. We are husband and wife," Yolanda Zarco said. << more >> Speedway Creates Advisory Councils(posted Oct 16)The Speedway Town Council is in the process of creating four advisory committees that will address quality of life issues. The council unanimously approved first reading for the ordinances to establish infrastructure, housing, civic events, and arts councils. The final adoption should be set for the October 27 meeting. In the meantime, people interested in serving on the committees can fill out a statement of interest form. << more >> Speedway Doctors Recall Fluoridation Effort(posted Oct 15)It has been 41 years since Ordinance 394 passed, authorizing fluoridation of Speedway's water. Dr. Kenneth Gray, MD and Dr. Francis McCormick, DDS, were instrumental in convincing the council that it would prevent tooth decay. Dr. McCormick said that the state board of health started pushing communities to fluoridate the water in 1951. << more >> |
