Local Band Has Its Own CD(posted Oct 6) Pancake Rescue Squad was one of several rock bands that showcased their talents at Speedway's rock concert October 6. A light crowd at the Meadowood Park's gazebo did not curtail their enthusiasm of playing. Fifteen-year-old Christian Dial, a singer and guitar player, said the idea was to have a rock concert for Speedway. He said the group started a couple of years ago when he was in junior high school and the band has now progressed with its own CD. Dial explained the band plans to do a professional recording this fall in a studio in Spencer, Indiana. "The first one we did ourselves in the living room," he said. He said they plan to self-market the CD on myspace.com/pancakerescuesquad. Dial said the group has about 12 original songs that they created, plus playing about 15 cover songs from other bands. He explained that writing a song usually develops with a guitar rhythm, then something sparks to add the vocals. The song's end product is a result of input from the entire band members of Justin Morgan, David Foxworthy and Jeremy Houg. Many of the songs come the band members' experiences or feelings. The song called "For the Youth" is about living in a broken home as a result of parents divorcing. "The group averages about one new song each month unless they are performing a lot shows which detracts from their creative time. The band members do not limit performances just to Speedway. The band performs on the east side of town or out at the Attic in Plainfield. Dial also noted Pancake Rescue Squad did a benefit for the Katrina Hurricane victims. |
