Environmental Investigation Underway at 4948 Crawfordsville Road(posted Oct 3) A public notice was issued September 27 to inform the public of a petroleum release, spill or overfill occurred at Jiffy Lube, 4948 Crawfordsville Road. According to IDEM Public Information Officer Amy Hartsock, as of July 1, the law requires a legal notice to be issued to warn the public of potential environmental threats. According to the file, the incident happened July 16 and pertained to removal of underground tanks in 1994. The general manager and store manager reported on September 29 that they did not have any clue as to what the notice was about, only that the oil-water separator was drained. He said the address of this location matched what was posted in the legal notice, but not the store number. Hartsock explained that the Q Lube Office in Houston Texas was the point of contact, but that number is disconnected. Q Lube owns Jiffy Lube. She said the store had 60 days to comply and it is Q Lube's responsibility to conduct the environmental investigation. Although the tank was removed in 1994, a potential property transfer this year prompted the additional environmental investigation. It is a common practice for potential buyers of property to request environmental phase 1 and phase 2 studies to protect the fiduciary parties involved. She said IDEM had a concern because of the potential of a contaminant entering into surface water. |
