Stadium Is Part Of Certified Technology Park(posted Sept 13) The Indianapolis Metropolitan Development's Sept 5 adoption of a resolution to hire two appraisal firms to appraise Bush Stadium for sale and disposition does not necessarily mean it will be for sale. On September 10, DMD Public Information Officer Angela Nussmeyer said, "currently, there are no specific plans for sale or development of the Bush Stadium. The assessment will provide the city land use recommendations if we want to move forward with developing the property." Nussmeyer indicated the stadium is part of the anchor for the Downtown Certified Technology Park that is comprised of the boundaries of 16th Street, the canal, New York Avenue, and White River. The CTP was created by the state so it can collect any increase in state payroll or state sales tax in that area. The funds are capped at $5 million and gives the city the ability to use the money to attract new business to the area through incentives like funding infrastructure. The CTP is mixed-use with an emphasis on life science and research. "The Bush Stadium property could be considered a potential anchor in the CTP given its size and location. If the site is redeveloped in whatever form, it would play a significant role in the future of the CTP," she said. |
