Mystery Plane Circles Speedway Wednesday Night(posted Aug 16) A complaint was filed with the Transportation Safety Administration on August 15, 2007 concerning a white plane flying low in a residential area without lights. The plane was circling in the Speedway area from about 10:00 pm to just before 11:00 pm. The plane did not appear to have any identifying markings or a tail number. The plane was flying in repetitive left circles. It was only when a commercial airliner approached from the opposite direction in its approach to the Indianapolis International Airport that the plane responded by turning on red flashing lights on the rear. Shortly after that a second jet approached the area and the plane turned on its wing tip lights and a forward looking spotlight as it flew south over Lawndale Avenue. The TSA said they would take note of the situation. The Navigator staff attempted to contact the FAA's safety hotline, only to find its after hours voicemail box was full. Similar surveillance activities have been reported in Bloomington. The Herald Times Reporter Kurt Van der Dussen wrote about similar activities in an article published February 28, 2003. |
